What is excimer laser?

An excimer laser uses a mixture of a noble gas (argon, krypton, or xenon) and a halogen gas (fluorine or chlorine), which with electrical stimulation and high pressure, emits coherent stimulated radiation in ultraviolet range. It has excellent sensitivity. Excimer laser is quipped with computer systems. It is the process of eliminating visual defects by using a device, in order to change the shape of the cornea, which is the transparent layer of the eye. During laser treatment, the tissue that makes the carbon bonds hold the corneal tissue together, is destroyed through evaporation. The perfectly adjusted laser is sent to the selected spot in the cornea, which will be slightly thinned. Thus, the desired value is achieved, by changing the refractive property of the eye-transparent layer.

This treatment method, which aims to eliminate eye defects, has been used worldwide for about 25 years without any problems. It has been used in our country for more than 20 years to correct eye defects and has taken its final form with many developments from the past to the present. • TPRK; With this method, the epithelium does not have to be removed as with the PRK method. This method shows less pain and faster recovery than the PRK method.

• Lasik excimer laser treatment method offers a painless solution that gives very good results compared to other methods. The advantages of this method over other methods are: it is a painless method compared to the PRK method, and the discomforts such as postoperative stinging and pain observed in the patients with the PRK method decrease or disappear within two days after using this method.
